YELLOWEYE ROCKFISH (Sebastes ruberrimus)

An huge yelloweye rockfish caught on board Tim Berg boats (www.alaskanfishing.com)

Yelloweye Rockfish lives in the eastern Pacific from the Alaska sea to northern Baja California, Mexico where it inhabits rocky reefs and boulder fields in 70 to 1700 feet (45 –500 meter) where they seek shelter in caves and crevices. Like most rock-fishes, yelloweye rockfish are most often landed in deep water by anglers bottom-fishing. Because they are found at great depth, heavy weights are used to present the deads baits and jigs. Because or their big size, yelloweyes are one of the largest rockfishes.
