SNOEK BARRACOUTA (Thyrsites atun)

A snoek -barracouta caught in South Africa (www.hookedonafrica.co.za) 

The Snoek  (Thyrsites atun) it is also called Cape snoek or barracouta in Australia, is a long, thin, ocean predator. The snoek  is found in the seas of the Southern Hemisphere.
It can grow up to 2 metres (79 inch) long and weigh as much as 6,5 kilograms (14 pound). It is found near continental shelves or around islands and feeds mainly on crustaceans, cephalopods and also small fish like   pilchard and anchovy  This predator specie usualluy form schools near the bottom or midwater; sometimes even near the surface at night. This fish it is mainly found in South Africa Namibia, Argentina Chle and Australia and New Zealand.
