BOCCACCIO (Sebastes paucispinis)

Angler Dr. George Bogen recently traveled north from his home in Los Angeles, CA, USA to the renowned Elfin Cove, Alaska to do his favorite type of fishing – deep bottom jigging. Dr. Bogen certainly wasn’t disappointed when he pulled up a 12.64 kg (27 lb 14 oz) boccacio (Sebastes paucispinis). Bogen was jigging a lead head and plastic grub combo with guide Riley Niewenhuis. 

The Bocaccio, Sebastes paucispinis, is a member of the Sebastidae (rockfish) family. Other names for this species include salmon grouper, grouper, tom cod.The bocaccio rockfish is a variety of fish found on the western coast of the United States and Canada.
